It has been two years since the Belgian Medicines Agency was created. The creation of FAMHP with financial autonomy and broader management was an important step towards an efficient and up-to-date public service. The Agency's structure had been redesigned in its first major transition in order to optimize the work processes and use of available resources but the transformation of the structure really began with the setting-up in 2008 of the three committees of the FAMHP: the Scientific Committee, the Transparency Committee and the Consultative Committee.
As part of its second anniversary celebrations AFMPS is introducing its new structure centered around three Directorates General (DG’s) also known as "pillars" and today presents its new organizational structure taking effect from 1st February 2009. Its Chief Executive Officer, Xavier De Cuyper also announces the names of three General Directors who have been appointed to head each of these three DGs: Ms Greet Musch, as General Director of the “PRE” pillar, Mr Wim Penninckx, as General Director a.i. of the “POST” pillar and Ms Paule JACQMAIN, General Director a.i. of the “INSPECTION” pillar.
The new structure provides indeed a logical division of the activities of the three DG’s at FAMHP, also known as "pillars":
- DG PRE authorisation or all activities before the first marketing authorisation of a drug or health product,
- DG POST authorisation or all activities after the first marketing authorisation of a drug or health product and
- DG Inspection or all inspection and control activities.
This new organization will enable FAMHP to respond better to the expectations of its partners and fulfill its mission to ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines and health products in the best possible way.
