Presentation of the site

FAMHP, formerly known as the General Direction of Medicines for Public Health, is the official authority for medicines and health products in Belgium. The agency watches over the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines and health products in the interest of public health.

Our website was set up to meet the needs of health professionals but it is also aimed at providing the general public with answers to their questions, particularly about the following issues: correct use of medicines, notifying adverse side effects when using a medicine, generic medicines, sale of medicines on the internet.

Information about our activities is given for products for human use  and products for veterinary use under 3 sections: medicines, health products and special products. In particular it covers clinical trials, marketing authorization procedures in Belgium, pharmacovigilance, control and inspection activities, advertising regulations.
