5-year celebrations at famhp

The federal agency for medicines and health products (famhp) celebrates its fifth anniversary and for the occasion has renewed its visual identity notably by changing its logo. The agency is also taking the opportunity of editing a brochure (French version) listing its key achievements and priorities for the future.

/en/binaries/afmps_5ans_20120601_WEB_tcm292-178993.pdfSince it was created on 1st January 2007 the famhp has faced many difficulties and has grasped many challenges, especially the successive periods of governments without full powers. These uncertainties have significantly curtailed many of its projects but never prevented it from carrying out its role as protector of public health.

Despite this difficult context, the overall performance of the agency has been positive and we would like to highlight the following points:

  • development of an autonomous agency to an efficient organisation, with a clear structure, responsibilities and enhanced expertise, particularly through the doubling of its number of staff and through the increase in its budgetary resources;
  • positioning the FAMHP on the national and international level, as for example during the Belgian Presidency of the European Union;
  • obtaining good results despite budget constraints;
  • enhancing transparency in its management and relationships with all partners (associated institutions, patients, industry, health professionals, hospitals, etc..).

After these five years, now that its installation has been completed, the agency is moving up a gear. One of the first steps of this momentum is reflected in the renewal of its visual identity by creating a new logo. This is highly symbolic, focusing on medicines AND health products.

In parallel with this makeover, the agency has also set several priorities. Indeed, it wants to look ahead and continue to fulfil its mission with the same professionalism, integrity, and transparency.

These priorities include:

  • guaranteeing the safety and quality of medical devices through traceability, evaluation, control and vigilance;
  • providing the Belgian public with timely access to promising innovative therapies;
  • strengthening the role of the FAMHP in the field of veterinary medicines;
  • improving information to patients in all areas of the FAMHP;
  • strengthen the vigilance of medicines and health products.

The federal agency for medicines and health products continues its ambition to be active in all its areas of expertise. It is of course aware that other difficult times will occur, but it wants to look to the future positively and is already engaged in writing a new chapter in its history.
