Coronavirus: updated guidelines for verifying the compliance and suitability of surgical face masks

date: 12/05/2020

The FAMHP has issued guidelines for checking the compliance and suitability of surgical face masks during the COVID-19 crisis. The guidelines are intended for companies, institutions and authorities that order, sell or use these masks.

In order to help companies, authorities and healthcare institutions to meet the minimum requirements in the current circumstances, guidelines were drafted in late March 2020 to check the conformity of products.

The change in the new version of the guidelines follows the amendment to the ministerial decree of 23 March 2020 laying down specific measures within the framework of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic based on Book XVIII of the Belgian Code of Economic Law. With this amendment, the retail trade in surgical face masks is no longer reserved for pharmacies, but has also been opened to the usual distribution channels.
